MSIFN Community Energy Champion

Employment Type: Full time, 35 hours per week. Occasional evening and/or weekend work may be required.

Minogi reports to a Board of Directors appointed by MSIFN Chief and Council.

Position Overview

The Mississaugas of Scugog Island First Nation (MSIFN) is seeking a dedicated Community Energy Champion to lead community engagement and communication efforts related to Ontario’s energy landscape, including Independent Electricity System Operator (IESO) projects and MSIFN energy partnerships. Working closely with MSIFN Consultation Department, Minogi Corp., Chief and Council, and the community, you will help ensure energy initiatives align with MSIFN’s values and priorities. This is a full-time position offering a salary of $55,000 per year, with comprehensive benefits and a start date to be determined.


Vehicle and License: Applicants must have a valid driver's license and access to a reliable vehicle. Rental vehicles may also be arranged in certain circumstances. Mileage costs are paid at MSIFN’s approved mileage rates.


Responsibilities 

  • Serve as a liaison between MSIFN Consultation Department, Minogi Corp., Chief and Council, and the community to ensure a clear understanding of Ontario’s energy demands, IESO projects, and MSIFN energy partnerships. 
  • Lead community engagement initiatives, including workshops, information sessions, and feedback forums, to involve MSIFN members in IESO procurement processes and energy partnerships. 
  • Create and distribute accessible communication materials (e.g., newsletters, social media updates, community bulletins) to keep the community informed about energy projects and partnerships. 
  • Review and update the MSIFN Community Energy Plan, incorporating community feedback and aligning with IESO opportunities and partnership goals. 
  • Secure funding through IESO to support updates to the Community Energy Plan in future funding windows. 
  • Attend webinars, conferences, and training to stay informed on energy trends, IESO processes, and community engagement best practices. 
  • Collaborate with MSIFN teams to understand and advocate for MSIFN’s interests in IESO procurement processes (e.g., LT2 rounds). 
  • Represent MSIFN in meetings with potential project partners, ensuring community priorities and transparency are upheld. 
  • Organize community meetings, elder and youth events, and cultural activities to foster inclusive dialogue on energy initiatives. 
  • Assist in developing MSIFN-specific Valued Ecosystem Components (VECs) related to energy projects to ensure project partners respect MSIFN lands and resources. 
  • Gather and integrate community input into the planning and evaluation of IESO-related projects and partnerships.


Qualifications

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with experience in community engagement or public outreach. 
  • Knowledge of or willingness to learn about Ontario’s energy sector, IESO procurement processes, and community energy planning. 
  • Ability to work collaboratively with diverse teams, including MSIFN leadership, community members, and external partners. 
  • Experience organizing events, facilitating meetings, or developing communication materials is an asset. 
  • Commitment to MSIFN’s cultural values and environmental stewardship. 
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and social media platforms; familiarity with grant applications is a plus. 
  • Ability to travel for conferences, meetings, and community events (travel support provided).
